My first ever 4 inches high stilettos. I think the cute fringe overtake my fear for toppling over. Thanks to S, for constantly sharing with me all her good buys . That woman, she has enough shoes to dress a millipede. Lol.

retail therapy

Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to go to Chinatown when hubby needs a new luggage. I spent a lovely 30mins in Golden Dragon trying hard to memorize the kinds of yarns they carry and the price range. I'm a fan of japanese yarns as I love the feel of it and they have more varieties in the cotton range. I left happily with 5 of the above.

God must have heard me bawling a few minutes ago and decided to do a kind act to cheer me up. I received my little package from Elann, a good 11 weeks after I placed my order. Cant really blame anyone, cheapo me opted for surface mail (with no insurance somemore) because at that time, I didnt have any project in mind, I was just buying for fun so I was ok with 6 weeks wait. Who knows Canada is really that far from Singapore. I've learnt my lesson, next time, it will be surface with insurance. Whahahaha....I'm a thrifty gal you know.

fabric button maker

I never knew we could make our own fabric buttons at home, I always thought we need some huge industrial machines to do that. At least that is what I recall the lady at the sewing shop did when I was young. I used to visit that shop with my mom when I was young and she was still sewing clothes for me and my sisters (Is that every mothers' passion, its slowly growing in me too. lol) The services provided included serging, knocking out fabric buttons and some heavy duty sewing. Most of my grandma's clothes uses fabric buttons so it was quite fascinating to see how she stuff the little squares of fabrics into the gigantic machine and punched out those pretty little (some big) buttons.

I thought I'll never see such things again, at least not at home. To my surprise, I found these simple fabric button kits at Daiso (again, my favourite craft shop), they come in two sizes so I grabbed both. I'm going to make one for H's Cape Lavender as I still owe her a nice button. The rest, I'm sure I have plans for them.

counting down

I realised when you crochet or knit, many a time, you miscount the number of rows you've completed. It gets worse when your yarn color is dark. Of cause you can use a stitchmarker but that baby doesnt tell the number, unless you keep clipping every tenth row or so.

So, while I was doing my rounds at Daiso the other day, I saw this cute little counter, size no bigger than a diecast Thomas and Friends engine and its quite pretty too, compared to those padlock lookalike iron counters. At $2 a piece, I really need no justification to get one. Whats next is, I shall string it with a necklace clip hook so that I can attach it to my wips. Brillant???

going green

The campaign has been launched and I find myself getting use to bringing my own shopping bag to the grocery, I even keep one in my diaper bag, you never know when you'll need them. The only grouse is, I'm using those $0.90 totes from Cold Storage and they are not compactable since there is a cardboard base at the bottom. My eyes lighted up when I saw these cuties at one of my favourite crafter's blog, I wish we can find such pretty totes here. I was so almost tempted to order them online, which thankfully, my visa thinks otherwise.

Good news is, I found them at the department store near my workplace and at $9.90 each but they have limited colors, yellow and pink only. I took the yellow cause the pink is just too pink. I wish they have come in a set because I had my eyes on the turquoise (above).

Hopefully, when I eventually get my own sewing machine, I can sew my own shopping bags...one day.

good bargains

While I still have some time before my murtabak meetup, I slipped to Spotlight to check out their yarns. Found some good deals at $2 per skein. Couldn't resist and bought some baby yarn in lilac for the little capelet I have in mind for H. See that crimson fluffy roll? It was a steal at only $0.90 per skein, I donno what I want to do with it, maybe some flowery brooches? Good bargains makes me happy the whole day.

shopaholic strikes again

This time, with the assistance of my accomplice, J. We ended googling H&M together and she agreed to help me get them and ship over to me here. What luck since they have lotsa nice cool stuff, for babies too. I just have to be careful with my mental calculations since we are looking at Euros. The good thing about online shopping is that, you can pile up your shopping cart like there's no tomorrow and later, via elimination, shortlist the items until the total $ doesnt look too alarming.

Many say Singapore is a shopping paradise, I beg to differ. Having been working for a (prestiges) shopping centre for almost 5 years, I noticed we have very limited brands or fashion lines available here. Most of the domestic brands follow Hong Kong/Korean trends which are just too cute (and small) for proper grown ups like me. The goodies that attract me now comes from Tangs and Zara but their tags are pricier. I can only console myself that I get better quality and designs.

I think the rest of today will be spent in H&M, I cant wait for them to come in to Singapore, which I think they will, soon.
