These are truly the kind of goodie bags that I would love to receive, alas my time, we didnt have such practices, in fact, having a birthday party itself is something quite unimaginable.

Coindentally, I sewn two goodie bags for T's teachers for his coming birthday celebration in school, I reckon since the children are getting something, shouldnt the teachers? The pouches will hold a little bottle of honey each.

The pattern for this pouch is found in Cotton & Paint Summer 07 and the fabrics are actually pillow cases bought from Daiso. Thrifting and crafting come hand in hand. There has been a debate in my household whether the printed side should be out but I felt it could be a little too noisy and plain pouches are more suitable for his teachers. I may be wrong but it looks good to me.

I must mention something about working on the sewing machine. The fabrics seemed to have a life of its own the moment I stepped on the pedal. It was rather scary and I don't know where to put my hands, I cannot risk my fingers being jabbed by it's (the sewing machine)monstrous teeth. That fellow is indeed intimidating. J was suggesting that I should go and try out newer machines, the feel is different and the pedal is more controllable, looks like I have to invest in a new machine (unless I can conquer my fear).

I never knew we could make our own fabric buttons at home, I always thought we need some huge industrial machines to do that. At least that is what I recall the lady at the sewing shop did when I was young. I used to visit that shop with my mom when I was young and she was still sewing clothes for me and my sisters (Is that every mothers' passion, its slowly growing in me too. lol) The services provided included serging, knocking out fabric buttons and some heavy duty sewing. Most of my grandma's clothes uses fabric buttons so it was quite fascinating to see how she stuff the little squares of fabrics into the gigantic machine and punched out those pretty little (some big) buttons.

I thought I'll never see such things again, at least not at home. To my surprise, I found these simple fabric button kits at Daiso (again, my favourite craft shop), they come in two sizes so I grabbed both. I'm going to make one for H's Cape Lavender as I still owe her a nice button. The rest, I'm sure I have plans for them.

stitch marker

(or what it is supposed to be called)

I have been using paper clips as stitch marker(especially important if you do circular design, to mark the beginning of each row) but I found them to be too filmsy. Firstly, it comes off easily and secondly (more importantly) it is ugly.

The stitch markers sold are nothing fanciful, just lil more prettier version of my paper clip, so I decided to make my own. All I needed was some beads (I used Lampwork here), a clasp, small section of wire and a plyer; and voila, it was done in 10 minutes (kisses to H, who patiently sat in the walker while mama was busy fiddling with this mini project).

Now how does it look now?? Better than a paper clip right?? And makes knitting more interesting too.

I must apologise for the poor photographic skill, I donno why I cannot get a clear picture of tiny objects. Argh.

Ask anyone now, they will tell you, its donuts!

Yes, thats how popular it has become and over the past few months, you see donut shops sprouting all over the island. I guess we are that deprived, after Dunkin Donuts ceased their operations here.

I have been wanting to make my own donuts and I do have a couple of tried n tested recipes; fried ones and baked ones. I procrastinate every time I see the amount of oil used in the recipes - 1 litre!


In the midst of this donut craze, I decided to make my own donuts, fat free way. I made this felt donut sometime ago for M, it is supposed to be pin cushion but I guess you can use it as a decor. Its cute, if I have the time, I'll make a dozen, with different frosting.

we're hooked

I was thinking of getting a set of crochet hooks and coincidentally, my good friend Joyce has also set her eyes on the same set of hooks. Talk about ESP, this is not the first time we have our minds on the SAME thing SAME time. Eerie isnt it? Like we're wired together.

Anyway, my purpose of getting these hooks is because of this, one thing leads to another, and boy, these hooks don't come cheap either. I can already feel my wallet squirming in fear.

By the way, can anyone tell me what does 7.5/0 means??

Clay Dollhouse

I have always been interested to try on clay/minature craft, especially after watching one episode of Japan's TV Champion (13 Jul 00). Anyway, not to far away from my workplace, there is a newly open craft shop and in the month of June, they are conducting a 2 day clay modelling workshop. What I did next was of cause predicatable, scrambled out my NETs and signed up immediately.

The workshop comprised of 2 parts. Day 1, we are taught how to knead the white clay dough and shape them using different techniques and Day 2, we will color our models using water colors.

This is what I achieved after my first lesson. Not as difficult as I thought but you do need to learn the techniques first. I find that its easier to have a photo or picture to model after, especially so for me, who is not very creative. The most difficult part is getting everything in the right proportion.

My big plan is to model a french bakery ala patisserie style. Well, we'll see how.
